Pat Green has teamed up with the Texas Dancehall Preservation, Inc., a
non-profit organization committed to preserving Texas dance hall heritage. Green is kicking off the group's matching funds campaign by donating a portion of the proceeds from a limited supply of autographed copies of his book, Pat Green's Dance Halls & Dreamers, sold on www.patgreen.com before Dec. 25, 2008.
"Dance halls will get in your blood," said Green, who grew up in San Antonio and Waco and now lives in Fort Worth. "These are special places to me. I want people to be aware of how great this scene is and what's happening in Texas music and have an appreciation and awareness for where this music started."
Pat Green's Dance Halls & Dreamers (www.dancehallsanddreamers.com ), a collaboration of Green, author Luke Gilliam, and photographer Guy Rogers III, was released in February to rave reviews. The coffee table-style book chronicles a day
in the life of 10 Texas dance halls through stories and more than 200
color photos, culminating with performances by icons including Green, Willie Nelson, Robert Earl Keen, and Jack Ingram.
was founded in 2007 as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
Its mission is to save historic Texas dance halls and the authentic
music and culture that is still found in them.
"There is nothing more true to the Texas way of life than the dance hall," said Patrick Sparks, Texas Dancehall Preservation president. "And with this generous matching contribution from Pat Green, we can move closer to saving them." |
